I’m a gadget guy and I don’t give a damn

Square Pegs

Published: June 29, 2007

Today is the day of the messiah's ascension to power. No, not Maitreya.

It is a day that goes down in the annals of history as "Iphone Friday."

I'm the biggest gadget guy I know, and an Apple enthusiast, and I couldn't care less. The net of it is this: It's a great phone on a lousy network, so it's going to be frustrating unless you're on wi-fi, in which case, you can probably use your computer anyway.

That's not stopping the hordes from lining up outside the Knox-Henderson Apple Store.

(Great irony in the pictures on the other side of that last link. Everyone there talking on a cell phone that will be gathering dust by tomorrow.)

The phones don't release until 6:00 PM.

Me, I'm happy with my BlackBerry. It does most of what the Iphone does, albeit less elegantly. Especially since SimulScribe released its amazing visual voicemail transcription service.

I'm telling you. This is the same town where they lined up around the block to pay $2.50 a piece for cupcakes recently. Even Little Debby was laughing. Now it's Steven Jobs. (And, according to unidentified publicist, original Smash mouth drummer Kevin Coleman. No word why.)

Like any battery operated gadget. You race out to buy something only to wait until it’s fully charged. Is it done yet? What about now? When will this thing be charged? Did I buy the Edsel of the electronic world? Should I call tech support?

Is there anyone going to go over to the apple store to interview those who are waiting in line? I suddenly had the thought of it looking like a Trekkie gathering, except there are probably girls in line.

I bet the patio at Chuy’s is full of looky-loos!

Still, no word if this gadget can survive even one drop.

Maybe it will make the phone I really want a whole lot cheaper.

To all those who waited in line, I say:

Losers!

A friend got their iPhone FREE after attending a 5 hour time share seminar today.
Sure beats waiting in line 5 hours and paying $500.
How long before they're the door prize at some disease-of-the-week luncheon?
LOSERS!

The Beach Boys with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Beach Boy trivia: Though surfing was a prominent theme in many of the Beach Boys' early songs, Dennis Wilson was the only original member who surfed. "Kokomo" was the Beach Boys' first hit in 20 years and ended up being their biggest selling single. Paul McCartney once said that "God Only Knows" was the most beautiful pop song ever written.
