Top ten signs your newspaper is in trouble”

Posted By Mike Orren in Square Pegs on May 1, 2007

Last night, David Letterman did the "Top ten signs your newspaper is in trouble."

My favorite:

#7 All horoscopes: "Now would be a good time to get out of the newspaper business"

And since I've been asked about this today, here's number 11.

I give that site 2 months at the longest. It's funny that you have somebody who knows nothing about myspace (obviously) say "we want our page to be like myspace". Oh really, you want your site to be as completely unnavigable, obnoxious, and garish as possible?

To be added to this list....

When your newspaper company launches a website called "neighborsgo" and copies the hell out of a real cool site called PegasusNews

OK I'm posting this anyway just 'cause, even though I just read the #11 you added after I typed this.

I just checked out neighborsgo for kicks... they list 4 events for this Friday. Not too shabby. We only have 361 events listed for Friday.

When Neighborsgo was starting I was thinking Pegasus might be in trouble.

After seeing it work Im thinking "No competetion." NGo is really awful.

If Pegasus had just a bit more money to spend on just a bit more paid news reporting, then it would be a full fledged news service.

Thanks for the votes of confidence y'all.

Courtney, it's actually been up about a month. And I had a nice snarky blog post ginned up about that, but after I borked our email newsletter yesterday, I decided better not to cast stones.

J Mortimer. I agree with you on all fronts. And (knock wood) you may just get your wish.

The print edition of the NeighborsGo stuff has been financially well supported by the PAC "Friends of LISD" -- who've taken out quarter-page ads in several editions.

I can't think why the old-line power-structure in Lancaster wouldn't support PegNews ...
