Perpetuating the stereotype

I bristled a bit last week when I was telling a NY-type about the self-print edition of The Daily You that you can "take on the train with you" and he responded with incredulity that we had trains in these parts.
"Yeah," I said. "And by next year the roads will be paved."
But then, I look at one of our neighborhood pages and see how we perpetuate the stereotype:

It's a day of odd animal escapes. A sea otter is on the run from the Dallas World Aquarium:

Hell, I'M still amazed that Dallas has a train. Supposedly enviro-hippie Austin doesn't even have a train. Having livestock around isn't terrible. At least on some level we're still connected to the food supply.

I've read your posts on the joys of riding the train--you know, gettin' stuff done while you're moving. That's an argument that trains are good, but it's a long, long way from demonstrating that trains are worth billions of dollars, or even a half-cent sales tax increase.
I once lived in Atlanta, where we had MARTA--unquestionably good, but we'd have been much better off spending the money on roads.

Video of the aforementioned sea otter escape. Doesn't get good until about halfway through:
