Early-bird favoriting contest / UnContest: FC Dallas vs. Columbus Crew

Posted By Mike Orren in Square Pegs on August 20, 2008

Guess which sports team gets the most traffic on PegNews? If you guessed the Cowboys, the Rangers, the Mavs or the Stars, you'd be dead wrong.

It is FC Dallas -- Mostly due to the efforts of sports editor Erin Rice, we have constant coverage of FC Dallas, and that translates into traffic. It fits right in with our strategy of using our resources to cover what others don't and linking out to others for more commoditized stuff.

So I'm glad to see that the folks at FC Dallas have joined us as advertisers and are kicking things off (pun intended) by giving away ten (10!) pair of tickets to the next home game -- August 30 versus the Columbus Crew.

I'll confess that I don't know a lot about this year's team, so I asked Erin why this would be a particularly good game. She sez:

Dallas just lost a tight match to the Columbus Crew on the road, in which

their newest forward, Jeff Cunningham, scored his 100th MLS goal. Could it be

number 101 at Pizza Hut Park against the team that Cunningham played on for

several seasons (Columbus drafted him as a rookie in 98)? Right now, every game

in the Western Conference is a big game. Dallas is in third, only two points

behind Real Salt Lake and four points behind conference rival, the

Houston Dynamo (teams get three points for a win). They're in the final third

of the MLS season, meaning that now is the push to solidify their spot

in the playoffs.

There's one game between now and the 30th, so Cunningham might score there too, but, you know, it's soccer... He might not. :)

Here's how the giveaway works:

Our five most avid FC Dallas readers automagically win a pair of tickets via the Daily You-driven UnContest. Congrats to: daveg, dj_david, neerdowell, ggh01 and beccahenley. They've shown a disproportionate interest in the team, so they get the first pick of tickets.

If you're not on that list, you can still win by clicking "add to favorites" on the game page on our site. User ddpez743 already did and becomes an instant winner, but that means that four more can claim the golden ducats. Please enter quickly though: The FC Dallasites sent us paper tickets, which means we'll have to mail them to you ASAP.

If I didn't already have a <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/events/2008/aug/30/104136/">couple </a> of <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/events/2008/aug/30/108184/">things </a> I'm considering that evening, I'd be all over this. Have fun!

Definitely needs more FC Dallas tix, though.
