The 90’s are SO back

Square Pegs

Pop culture proof that the 90's retro-nostalgia wave is hitting full force:

That's enough specious anecdotal evidence for me to declare a trend. Seems to be hitting about three years earlier in the cycle than 80's nostalgia took hold. I strongly advise the Spin Doctors to get cracking.

You forgot to mention the fact we're still spendin' most our lives livin' in a gansta's paradise.

I am not ashamed to admit that I watched all of the "Top 100 songs of the 90's" this weekend. I am slightly ashamed to admit that about half of them are currently on my ipod.

Say what you will, but REM is all about the eighties to me.

But Maybe Uncle Tupelo should reunite.

Scott - I'm with you. I recall when REM still had that unique sound (Superman, Driver 8, Fall On Me) and couldn't get on anything except College Radion Stations.

I caught the 90's countdown, took me waaaay back to my HS/College years. I would'nt mind more Liz Phairs, Lisa Loebs, Toad The Wet Sprockets and STPs in this day and age to counteract all the crap thats on the airwaves.

I understand that REM straddles the decades, but Automatic For The People and New Adventures in Hi-Fi hold special places in my heart, and both are soundly in the 90's.

The REM continuation in the 90s was like Duran Duran coming back in the 90s for one last hoorah.

And for hip hop, i always tried to be cool like that.

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
