Where are you all coming from?
Posted By Mike Orren in Square Pegs on July 29, 2008
So, our traffic has been decent the past couple weeks -- especially given that there's no special event driving it.
But our user registration has been off the hook. Last week was a record, and this week is on a pace to trounce it.
The thing that keeps me awake (yeah, I'm a weirdo) is that I can't for the life of me figure out why. Nothing on the site driving undue traffic or Googlejuice. Nice, but not crazy traffic. No new marketing initatives that weren't in place a month ago. (If anything, we've pulled back on our Adwords because we got out of control in June.)
Jeremy thinks it may be because of some performance tuning we did recently. My money's on the iPhone. But truth is, we don't know. And that's unusual.
So why are you all here? (We're glad you are.) What's making you register? And do you have a sister / brother / friend / cousin / boss / guy-who-grunts-at-you-in-the-elevator / acquaintance-with-a-large-advertising-budget who you can tell to join you here?

Mikey - I'm betting my money on the combo of restaurant and arts coverage (yes, I'm biased so I see what I want to and all) but I recognize a few names from recent signup on our mailing lists too. So you know that's a hole you're filling and I betcha these folks end up loyal because of it.
Whatever the reason - congrats and damn the torpedoes! Full steam ahead!

I think Jason will back me up here, but it's got to be due to my recent celeb status.

Hmmm... I don't remember when I registered, but it was probably a couple of months ago.
I found y'all via google news on the setting for local news. I don't remember the topic, but I'm certain it was something random that caught my eye that day.
I do recall registering, and it was not in order to comment on a thread but rather to enhance the experience of getting news on local events such as concerts, wine tastings, art shows, etc.

I may or may not have started whoring myself out for the greater good.
Thank me later.

I too found a link on Google news, and it could be that I recently got a job where I sit and read news all day.

Speaking of local events, is there a way to set my profile so that my neighborhood events show upcoming events the following weekend instead of only what is happening that day?

momzilla, if you're referring to the hood page and its corresponding homepage box, there is not. But the main event search should default to your area:

Oh, Scott. If you're still giving it away, the term is "slut". But don't let me burst your bubble.

Jason, your talking about Doyle. I'm sure he's at the very least squeezing a free meal out of the deal.

All due respect, Jason - if the point is to bring people to the site, there's definitely <a href="http://consumer-law.lawyers.com/Contract-Basics.html">consideration</a>.
Side note to you regularly reading whores: <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2008/jun/24/dallas-homeowner-must-clean-swat-team-mess/#c28579">IANAL</a>, but I advise against formally entering into a contract for services. I'm simply <s>bursting</s> busting Jason's balls.
