If you were among the 7 of 8 ticket seekers who were denied tickets to this Saturday's taping of Antiques Roadshow at the Dallas Convention Center, we have an incredible opportunity for you to attend — and have an item you bring appraised — as a correspondent for Pegasus News. You will be accompanied by our staff reporter/photographer Chad Jones, who will document your experience and take your comments as a participant in the day-long Roadshow process. Just complete these three easy steps:
1) Go to the event page and in the comments field post a link to a photograph of the item you'd like to have appraised.
2) If you are tech-savvy enough to embed the image itself (from our Flickr photo pool) all the better
3) A good description (like you might see in an eBay auction) is also appreciated. The winner will be selected based on our opinion of what item we think has the best chance getting on TV. (While we don't go antiquing every weekend, we are well versed when it comes to garage sales)
The winner will be notified at noon Thursday so make sure the e-mail address connected to your Pegasus user profile is current. If you attend, you will be solely responsible for the transportation and care of the item you bring. The event is from 8am to 6pm and the winner should be prepared to be there the entire time, but don't worry we won't make you hang out with Chad the whole time, as he will be darting around the event throughout the day. Good luck!

Despite not having an antique to submit, this is a pretty awesome deal PN is putting together imo.
I immediately thought of Pavel b/c he has tons of old crap that might be worth something, but then I remembered he hoards everything and couldn't bear the thought of parting with any of it.

I could part with a lot of stuff if it was worth actual money.
Money I would use to buy more (potentially!) valuable garbage at estate sales.

Funny, I don't remember seeing baby-sitting anywhere in my contract.

It's more fun when the baby is drunk, which, trust me, I would be.

Who did win?

The winner was (drumroll)...
PegNews staffer Mike Bullock finding something in his attic at the last minute as there were no user entries.
I keep learning on our contests that no matter how good the prize, things that require effort just don't garner entries. (See first attempt on Radiohead contest.)
It's not that we don't have a ton of people who enter our contests, but if it ain't the UnContest or a simple favoriting contest, that's a different story.
Mike and Chad were there this morning and their story will be up soon.

I really think having a link from the sidebar to the current contest would really help participation.
Note the large gap without comments.
What about a link in "Things you can't miss"? Is that something we've tried?

Yes.

Agreed, although I think that means making contests a database object, or at least a deal type.
Next PegNews staff meeting in this space in a couple hours...

Unlike Radiohead, this contest wasn't officially greenlighted until a few days before the taping. With more notice it still might've worked.

Hey, Doyle did his part. Commented as soon as I saw it b/c I liked the idea. If I had any old piece of junk I thought might be worth something, I'd have happily entered. But I don't.
SO, maybe if Latest Comments wasn't towards the bottom of the sidebar, you'd have been in bidness. =)
Or, you know, putting Things You Can't Miss...where it's less likely to be missed. =p
Just brainstorming here.
