Online future for indie films - and post-SXSW life for Matt Dentler
Posted By John Meyer in Square Pegs on June 27, 2008
This WIRED piece details the latest strategy for saving independent films from post-film fest obscurity, and also offers a look at the new career path chosen by former SXSW headman Matt Dentler, who left his phenomenally successful five-year leadership role there to go to work for an outfit called Cinetic Rights Management. In New York City. (
Movie streaming via the net, says Dentler, will be "... the next big hope for the film business," and he refers here to small films, not studio-produced fare - which is doing just fine, thanks very much. With his new company no doubt at front of mind, Matt thinks the time is ripe for burgeoning growth in the online delivery method for films that might otherwise simply fade into obscurity after their moment in the film festival sun.
Dentler has been making high-profile appearances this week at the Los Angeles Film Festival. (Seems like any little burgh can host a film festival these days, don't it?)
