Create your own contest: Free Radiohead tickets
Posted By Mike Orren in Square Pegs on March 21, 2008
In our never-ending quest to buy your loyalty, we hand out a lot of tickets around here. But David wisely realized that if we got Radiohead tickets before they sold out, we could really get some brownie points going.
So, we've got four free lawn seats to give away between now and the show. That seems a potentially big enough deal to do something other than our traditional UnContest or favoriting contest.
So how should we give these away? Any suggestions? What would you do for Radiohead tickets?

Stacey Callaway, says:
Why not ask people to support local music as the contest? Have them go out and see a number of bands between now and (set a deadline). They then write reviews of the bands they've seen and the person with the most reviews wins. Or better yet, the person with the best contest idea wins two and the reviewer wins the other two??

We could always give the tickets to people whose names rhyme with "glarin' mice." Just a thought...
On a serious note, I think TC is on the right path. For the record, I welcome user-submitted live reviews even without a contest, in case anyone out there is interested.

I would listen to Creed on repeat for 24 hours.

Mike Orren, says:
xdavidwattsx suggestion sounds like it would violate the "cruel and unusual" clause...
But TC's has real merit. Post the most local music reviews between x and y date and get the tix? IF we go that route, we'll spot TC a couple entries for the suggestion.

I think you know my feelings on local vs any other music. But I'm not nearly as big of a radiohead fan as people who'd be gunning for tix, so I won't shed any tears.
Unfortunately, I wasn't digging the accrual method for the Savor Dallas tix b/c some reviews aren't as constructive as they would be otherwise. So methinks there'd need to be some validation that the person actually went to the show, rather than just hearing a few tracks from an album and posting "yea it was okay LOL".
After all, live shows are about the only reason local stands out (imo).
To be relatively constructive: tix go to users with the most radiohead lyrics tattooed on their body!

I agree, Scott, there does need to be some validation that people actually went to the shows. Not sure how to go about verifying... What about posting the set list or some other identifying thing from the show?

Scott Doyle, says:
Seems validation would be tough to confirm depending on how strong of an honor system PegNews has. Set list, pics, etc could easily be obtained elsewhere online and regurgitated. Posers! If you think nobody would do that for radiohead tix, think again.
The only solution is for someone to email Miko that they're going and meet him there. Miko then takes a saliva swab (for DNA, of course), fingerprints, and a photo. I'll call shenanigans on anything less!

Personally, I think it would be really cool to get some charity going for the tickets- you could probably do something that goes along with TC's idea and supports local music would be fantastic. Then it would kind of end up being a battle of cities you could say- who reps there bands the best!
Psst- shameless plug- I blog twice a week on Coupons, Contests, and Promotions (basically anything free and fun) at funfreestuff10.blogspot.com and I've blogged about Pegasus in the past. I think this is a great site for new and updated information with the option of immediate response- GENIUS!

Can y'all not do something ridiculous? Along the lines of standing in a refrigerated truck the longest? Or did KDGE get sued for doing that kinda stuff...

I don't think they can actually do something that is actively harmful to people's health...
Although I'd come out and watch people freeze to death for Radiohead.

I think the radio stations stopped that stuff after that one lady died from hyper-hydration or whatever it was.

Hey, I tried. I'd definitely go watch people walk on coals or freeze their tails off.
Just think Miko, you could surely get someone to advertise the event...maybe they could be pulled into the suit and split the judgment!

Why not have a Rock Band competition? Winner is whoever gets the highest score on "Creep" on expert.

Methinks Courtney's idea is awesome, but I'm not sure Miko's willing to buy a gaming system and the $160+ set to give away tix.
<small>Pavel's idea, btw.</small> <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/blogs/pegasusnewsblog/2008/apr/01/fight-it-real-goodly/#c23997">Illuminati tourney</a> ftw!
