Early voting surges means smooth sailing at the polls today
Posted By Mike Orren in Square Pegs on November 4, 2008
I waited in line exactly 0 minutes as voter 161 at my poll today.
I've always insisted on voting on election day. Seems like I'm now in the minority.

0 minute wait here, too. Part of the joy of being the forgotten demographic.

Lemme say, once more, it bugs the crap out of me that there's so much focus on the Presidential, despite the fact that Texas will not swing, so the race, to me, is totally (locally) inconsequential.
Yes, I have a preference for a candidate. No, my vote does not matter.
There are important elections that are actually close enough to matter. There are local policy distinctions worth discussion.
And how many races went uncontested this time?
OK, done bitching. I'm happy this cycle is over.

Jeremy - frankly were it not for Pegasus' coverage, I'd have had NO idea about the local candidates. I still felt moronic looking at the ballot, but at least I had a passing acquaintance with a few thanks to you guys.

While I already gave Bentley my 2ยข on the matter, I second the notion that I'd have been relatively lost without PegNews coverage of local races. I'd have looked them up anyways because I'm a big nerd, but I'm sure that would have meant a lot more time and effort than expended right here on PN.
Apologies if you did it this year, but next go-around I'd suggest setting the Voting page up based on your precinct...so you simply click on your precinct to get all pertinent information. Obviously I'm disregarding whatever internet wizards might hold you back, but methinks that'd optimize effectiveness of the page.

Scott, in early voting, you can go to any location. But yeah, day-of voting is based on districts. The tricky bit is figuring out which district is yours-- most people don't know their voting district (me either).
It's technically feasible, of course, just not completely straight-forward-- and I didn't want to just assume people know their districts.

Of course, peeps could always go here...simply seems like it'd be worth y'alls efforts to internet up what's truly user-specific rather than having them run around trying to figure out who's doing what in their district/precinct.

The local political coverage in this town is abysmal. Not that any of the media here is good at anything other than patronage and 'special advertising sections'
