UnContest / Favoriting contest: Magnetic Fields at the Majestic

Square Pegs

Published: October 6, 2008

I'll confess that when my pal Houston first tried to get me into The Magnetic Fields, I didn't quite know what to do with them bandleader Stephen Merritt's thematic albums made up of synth-pop as sung by Silence of the Lambs' Buffalo Bill.

But over time, I've become a die-hard fan, the kind that is geeked out when thrown a curveball like Merritt pitched with the band's newest disc, Distortion. From a three-disc set of 69 love songs, to another of pop songs that all start with the letter "I," the band has transitioned into a grungy, well-- distorted rawk album. Will be really interesting to see how that comes off live.

And you, gentle reader, can see just that next Monday (October 13) thanks to three pair of tickets from our friends (and advertisers) at C3.

The first pair goes to PegNews user RollingThunder1975 in the UnContest, meaning that the wizard inside the Interwebs tells us he's our most active Daily You user in terms of alt-indie music content.

The other two will be given away in a drawing among those who go to the show page and click "Add to favorites" (requires free / easy / painless registration and login). We'll draw sometime Friday afternoon and get you on the guestlist for Monday night.

Or, if you don't want to take chances, you can buy tickets now.
