Contest: $1,202 worth of South Padre International Music Festival tickets

Square Pegs

Published: October 16, 2008

Our pals at Do512 (whom you should always use to find out what's going on in Austin) have given us 6 pair of tickets to the Halloween weekend South Padre Island Music Festival. (Once you add in the fees, a three-day pass is still a great deal at $100.)

I don't know about you, but I for one would rather see the likes of Willie Nelson, Ghostland Observatory, Los Amigos Invisibles, Alejandro Escovedo, and Grupo Fantasma at the beach than to stay home and deal with a bunch of ungrateful trick-or-treaters who probably won't even put in the effort to come up with a decent costume. (That's how my 'hood rolls, at least.)

We'll do this contest a little different than our usual, since we don't have a local event page for this one. To enter, post a link to a YouTube video (the link, not the embed code) from one of the bands on the bill in the comments below. The trick is that once someone has posted a video by an artist, you have to pick a different one. We'll draw six winners from among the entrants on the morning of Friday, October 24. (Please make sure you check the email you used when registering, because we'll need a physical address to mail the tickets.)

Remember, only one entry per band is allowed; the video has to be from YouTube; and you post the link, not the embed code (Unless you're a "verified" user. Then you can post whatever the heck you want.)

Check out the schedule here. Looks like a great weekend. Good luck!

Methinks Peg News isn't aware that even when anonymous users post You Tube URLs, they get rendered as embedded content.

Power Users — Tips and tricks to help you get the most out of Pegasus News New video comment feature

By Mike Orren

Erin already covered this in the piece on the new Radiohead contest, but I thought I should also make an official announcement here: One of our relatively unique features has been allowing users, albeit only verified users, to post snips of code in their comments on the site. This usually means photo links or video embeds from YouTube or similar. We only allowed verified users to do so as a security measure to prevent anything that might goof up the site. However, we've now made it so any user can post YouTube videos in comments. And you don't even need to do the whole embed code. All you have to post is the URL of the video and we take care of the rest. So this: ...becomes this: Easy as pie. Note that this only works with YouTube for now. If you want to geek out with any of the other myriad video providers, you'll have to become verified. (Otherwise, we'd have to do individual programming for every new provider.)

Suppose it might have been helpful to say what that was. It's Ghostland Observatory - Sad Sad City
