Okay, so it's one thing that SpongeBob SquarePants has always been somewhat of a subversive cartoon that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike, but it's quite another for Burger King to combine SpongeBob with a reworking of "Baby Got Back" to sell ... kids meals. What exactly was the pitch here?: "So we'll have women in tight outfits shaking their butts at the camera -- that'd be perfect to sell food to kids!"
And the full music video, if that's your thing:

I love this commercial! They better not mess with it like they did with the Quiznos one.
And well, you only get the 99 cents Kids meal with the purchase of a Adult combo meal. :p So ya, it makes sense.

First off let me tell you that for the most part I agree with you using “sex” even if it is girls with boxes in their pants, to sell products feels wrong. That being said, we live in the 21st century and not the 1950’s. Gone are the days when first base was holding hands (do we even have base’s anymore?). We also live in America, a country that was started on many puritanical views. In Europe they use nudity to sell everything from OJ to soap. Why does this work for them? Because they have removed the taboo aspect of the human body. When I was a kid I remember lying to my friends about seeing a female breast and such because it was something forbidden. Nude beaches in France and Spain are commonplace and not shocking at all. It seems a bigger faux pas to point out the nudity than to be nude there. Now I will admit when I was in Palma Spain I did see some things on those beaches that took quite a bit of mental bleach and a lot of scotch to remove, but you take the good with the bad. I am getting off point, as we move forward as Americans we have to move along with the times and such. Do I like seeing teenage and pre-teen girls with baby-doll tees that say “Sexy” and what not, not really(Chris Hanson enters). But it’s the times we live in and what we have to put up with. I firmly believe that once we get over the whole forbidden fruit thing, items like this will be laughed at for what they are. As a side note to this I asked my friends that are fathers, one with a boy and a girl the other with two girls, what they thought of this. Neither was surprised by it and both admitted the kids didn’t even acknowledge the women only Sponge Bob. However one of them did point out an intriguing point. It sounded like a little racial rhetoric but after thinking on it, it seemed true. BK’s demographic seems to be pointing to a more racial specific group. It also doesn’t seem to be the first time they tried to target a racial demographic. (See the Texas burger campaign they had to pull) Just something to think on.

"Baby Got Back" graduated from the realm of "ethnic" music to the popular mainstream nearly two decades ago. You now see it performed at Bar Mitzvahs and retirement parties. Nice try though, boob-liar.

Okay- old guy here. To begin with...I think this type of 'music' is completely tasteless. No wonder it was chosen to sell to America- we love tasteless.
Yes, it's the 21st century; yes, we all have 'seen it all'; yes, when you break it down- it's just another huge corporation using sex to sell a food item to American children. (Yawn)
I'm not advocating censorship- but a little common-sense-responsibility would be nice.
Again, too much to ask from the capitalist pigs who operate the marketing machine of American society.
The problem here, as it's always been, is that grown-ups like you and I know what this is all about- little kiddies watching might not. All they'll get from this is that to be cool, you wear tight shorts and shake your butt alot-that's great!
I'd rather my granddaughter not see this sht! And of course the product they're selling is sooo good for you, eh Mom?
It's good to be King!
As if this guy wasn't creepy enough to begin with...

Agreed! A buddy of mine came to our Halloween party in a Burger King costume and he won the scariest costume award unanimously. And do you remember seeing those commercials where a person wakes up to find the King in their room staring silently at them and holding out some breakfast food to them?
I do

It's obviously working. My seven year old today at dinner asked why we have never gone to BK. We don't watch network/cable TV (Not a big moral thing. It's just crap so why pay for it?) So one can only deduce his classmates are talking it up.

Sweet buttery christ Rick? Seriously? Sorry but wake up and smell the twothousands(sp?).. Capitalists pigs? Please you, I and everyone else sold out along long freaking time ago. And if you didn’t I hope I don’t kick your box on accident on my way to the office. The “we” are not in the sixties anymore. Put down the hash pipe and the demonstrationist verbatim and step up to the plate and suck it up. You, I, and everyone else sold out a long time ago, welcome to the suck here is your helmet. Seriously if you are as old as you say you are you should not be offended you should be happy that we are moving toward a more liberated front. In any case you miss my point that 90% of the world laughs at this crap because it is exactly that “crap”. Nothing more than something to sell a product, and as I stated we(Americans) have way to stringent a view on pure and un-pure. If you don’t approve there is a Amish or Quaker colony somewhere close..
Cho... you are the bomb..

Straight from the NAMBLA textbook.
I would like to find out who the head of marketing is for Burger King because -sorry guys but if I had to guess - he is working out some serious issues on the BK expense account and it's leaving a greasy stain on my television screen.
I couldn't be more grateful for my DVR and the fast forward button!

Jasen Chavez- "Sweet buttery christ Rick"- Now that's funny!
Yes, I do feel old when I look at some of the stupid things I see younger folks doing today. I know I sound like my father when I say things like that- but it is what it is!
Just because we can do something, doesn't mean we should do something. If this is 'moving toward a more liberated front', all we're liberating is tasteless, no-class, greedy corporations who care nothing for the welfare of their customers, or their children.
Is this really what we are as a society- accepting even the most disgusting marketing pushed in our children's faces, and saying to ourselves, "Oh well, we've seen it all- bring it on, all in the name of capitalism!"
And don't apologize for what you say or do while drunk. It has been my experience with folks who drink, that you're never closer to the real you, than when you're drunk.
Troup- If people were works of art, you'd be an abstract painting.
