Longtime readers may remember my tale of the liberation of the window on the Chez Pompadour in Uptown Dallas. I've got a nice coda to add to it.
For those too lazy to click the link to the full tale, the upshot is that the window was supposed to go to the last of the participants to be married and that I was keeping it in storage and accidentally broke it.
The rightful recipient was married this weekend and I was the best man. Although the window-breakage had long ago been forgiven, there were enough offhand mentions of the Chez to make me want to find a way to make good.
So, I went to my Facebook, LinkedIn and other "friends" lists in search of all the local photographers I know. I blasted out a message asking if any of them had happened to shoot this run-down, non-historical, important-only-to-us barber shop, acknowledging that I knew this was a total punt.
Within the day, I'd gotten four responses that ranged from polite "no's" to "What the hell are you talking about?" The fifth came that night from Allison V. Smith:
Allison had a ton of great shots, but I had to pick the one that featured the window:

A framed print now hangs on the happy groom's wall.

Very nice, you sly devil!
Full tale is worth the read, imo, especially now that we know the outcome. Also, inspires me to do a better job of keeping photos on something a little more reliable than my college PC's slowly dying hard-disk. =p

Scott, just make copies, and spread them far and wide. Unless you've something to hide, eh?

Not gonna lie, it's a true test when I befriend people on facebook and pics I've been tagged in are fair game.
I don't really trust most image-hosting sites will be around in 17 years, though. Would sooner have them on some kind of medium than these internets if I want to keep it for a long while.

Allison V. Smith lights up a room when she walks in to such an extent that I have learned, in anticipation of seeing her, to carry a pair of eclipse glasses in order to avoid having my corneas fried.

Why is this the first time you've ever mentioned this to me, Pavel?
I thought we told each other everything. =(

ScoDo, sharing a toothbrush does give on the feeling of genuine commitment, but let's be honest, he's a dog. He's a tramp. He's a rounder.
You can do better.
