The local connection here is that, um, a lot of people here watched the Moon landing on TV when it happened 40 years ago today.
In celebration, the Moon has been added to Google Earth:
Perhaps the coolest retro-future-enabled tribute I've seen is at Kottke.org, where at 3:10 local time you can tune in and watch the landing coverage exactly as it played way back when (instead of just re-watching the highlights over and over).
