Congrats to our friends and content partners, the Dallas Voice: Friday has been designated by the Dallas City Council as "Dallas Voice Day:

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, Dallas Voice was established in May 1984 by three investors: William Marberry Jr., Donald E. Ritz II and Robert W. Moore; and



WHEREAS, beginning in May 1984 Dallas Voice established an independent and Dallas-based media voice for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people; and



WHEREAS, Dallas Voice is the largest media enterprise in Texas for LGBT people; and



WHEREAS, Dallas Voice has worked tirelessly in the fight for equal rights for LGBT people; and



WHEREAS, Dallas Voice has been an advocate for all people living with HIV/AIDS and worked towards education and prevention regarding HIV/AIDS; and



WHEREAS, on May 22, 2009, Dallas Voice will celebrate its 25th anniversary with the publication of a special commemorative edition; and



WHEREAS, Dallas Voice is a testament to the amazing shift in the acceptance of LGBT people and their civic achievements; and



WHEREAS, the contributions of each community are vital to building a world-class, international city and the city of Dallas appreciates its commitment to this effort.



NOW, THEREFORE, I, TOM LEPPERT, mayor of the city of Dallas, and on behalf of the Dallas City Council, do hereby proclaim May 22, 2009 as Dallas Voice Day.
