Show alert: The Zeros
Posted By Mike Orren in Square Pegs on October 2, 2009
A pal sent the following pitch for a show you should know about:
Scott Beggs and Ryan Sumner are promoting The Zeros at the Double Wide tomorrow night. The band were one of the biggest garage/punk bands in the late 70's in SD/LA, and Dallas is lucky to have them in town. They inspired almost all of the protopunk stuff that came later like The Plimsouls, Manual Scan, Tell-Tale Hearts and Three O'Clock. Not too mention that lead singer Javier Escovedo is Alejandro's brother... Essentially, they are to Southern California and San Diego, in particular, what the The Nervebreakers are to Dallas. They were also on the legendary Bomp! Records. Here is a story from the San Diego Union about the band. They are from my hometown...Chula Juana, as well, holmes! LOL!
Some recent press here.

Not bad. It actually reminds me of the Nerves more than the Plimsouls. If I was in town I'd check it out.
