A suggestion for Mario Tarradell
Posted By Alan Cohen in Soundcheck on July 14, 2006
Mario Tarradell wrote an article for today's Guidelive that started with the following:
"Female singers and songwriters are not plentiful in Texas' male-dominated country and roots music scene. On one hand, there are Pat Green, Jack Ingram, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Robert Earl Keen and Bruce Robison, and on the other, there are the Dixie Chicks and Trish Murphy."
Uh, Mario, have you ever heard of independent artists?
If you are having trouble finding these mysterious independent artists, we have a nice list of over 1100 local DFW artists here at TexasGigs that you could start with.
Here I'll help, try Maren Morris. She just won the Fort Worth Weekly award for Best Female Vocalist. Or how bout Sara Hamilton.
Just cause you haven't taken the time to look for female singer/songwriters in Texas doesn't mean they don't exist. Mario, my suggestion to you is that you should actually go see some local music.
