The Push

Soundcheck

Last night, I headed out to the Barley House to celebrate the Mavs first Western Conference Title. Turns out that a brand new band called The Push was performing there and they blew me away. This was the first gig for the foursome (guitar, keys, bass, drums) led by guitarist Ryan Fitzgerald of The Polyphonic Spree. BUt it was the Push's drummer that stole the show for me. His beats were the centerpiece of a hard groove that kept songs fresh from start to finish. Just a fantastic job for a first show. I can't wait to hear more from these guys.

Hella, Hella, Hella is right. When and where do these guys play again? Do they still do that song "Jogging Down The Tollway In An Aluminum Foil Jump Suit". Never mind, I am thinking of a different band. But as good as The Push's drummer was, I thought the guy on base rocked.

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
