Hip-hop SUPERGROUP forms

Posted By Alan Cohen in Soundcheck on March 1, 2006

I'm excited. I was reading Tahiti's blog and just found out about P.P.T.. Its a new project by Pikahsso, Picnic, and Tahiti. I'll be honest, I don't know much about Picnic yet, but he is in good company. Check out this preview video of the group (I'm a sucker for the horn section).

The only thing that is troubling is Tahiti's claim that there is another big surprise on the way. I wanna know now!!! C'mon Tahiti, c'mon Pikahsso, I know you all are gonna see this, so how about givng me the inside scoop on the big surprise. I'm good at keeping secrets.

Hell yeah the show they did at the Gypsy Tearoom was great. I was amazed, it was fun. Made me remember why I like Hip Hop in the first place.

Oh yeah and its so funny because they are all great at other things besides music. Tahiti does film and videos. Pikahsso does Graphic Designing. Picnic is a bad ass producer and together its like OMG.

So I went down to the Darkside tonight to check out Pikahsso -- and he was great. As much P-funk as hip-hop, and with a hypnotic bob & weave that captivated the sparse room of indie rockers. BUT the highlight of the night was definitely the debut live performance of PPT. Tahiti and Picnic took the stage for the last couple songs of the set, PPT's first single as well as Pikahsso's single VERB.

PPT definitely has an amazing energy -- I'd love to see them tackle a full set. It's a shame that the crowd was so sparse (the media-patron ratio was roughly 1/1), but you never woulda' known it. And it was cool to see guys from bands like The Angelus and Zygote digging on the show.

But Tahiti as "speak no evil?" My suspension of disbelief only goes so far...
