NCAA Tournament Analysis - Minneapolis Bracket
Posted By Alan Cohen in Soundcheck on March 13, 2006

Kevin and I were having trouble filling out our NCAA tournament brackets (which seemed a whole lot more important than actually working). So Kevin suggested that we use the age-old strategy of making predictions based on which of the team's mascots would win in a fight to the death. And since we had to make it look like we were working, we decided to record the discussion.
Since we turned it into a podcast, its no longer Kevin and I avoiding doing real work. Now its CONTENT!!! Or as Vitale would say "Its Content BABY with a capital C!" (C'mon, you gotta love Vitale).

Just couldn't let it slide that y'all aren't up on your mascots. The buckeye is a nut, and a poisonous nut at that. If the wildcat eats the buckeye, it would keel over in no time. Also, there's the potential choking factor...the buckeye is a pretty large nut. Hope you'll take this into consideration for the next round.
And what's the deal with the 2007 tourney logo?

We're just one year ahead of everyone in this crazy Internet era, that's all.
OK, according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckeye), the buckeye is actually a tree from which the poisonous buckeye nut falls. Since it's a mere tree, I don't see how a wildcat wouldn't be able to use its claws to gradually slice the tree down. Advantage Wildcats.

I'm going to have to disagree. Brutus, the OSU mascot, is most certainly the nut, not the tree. And anyway, why couldn't the tree fall on the wildcat...does a wildcat really have the brain power to know to get out of the way when that tree comes down? Wildcats of all stripes seem to fall in the shallow end of the genepool. Also, the wildcat would have no claws left by the time it was done scratching, leaving it vulnerable in the next round.

But its vulnerability in the next round is an issue for the next round, not this rround.
Besides, we've neglected the issue that, being a Buckeye, this is a nut that cheats and is on probation. Even if the Buckeye won the mascot battle, the NCAA would not recognize its achievement.
