Michael Jackson in Dallas
Posted By Alan Cohen in Soundcheck on May 30, 2006

I am a Michael Jackson fan. Off The Wall and Thriller continue to be two of my all time favorite albums. Hell, I used to know the entire dance sequence in the "Thriller" video. So you can only imagine how excited I was to stumble across this concert footage of a 1984 Michael Jackson performance right here in Dallas, TX. (insert joke about MJ and little boys here)

Its even more entertaining if you mute the vid clip and play something else in the background and imagine the Jacksons are playing that song ... in my case, I used The Mars Volta's "Cicatriz ESP".

ahh, the Jacksons Victory tour ... the tickets were expensive ... $30, i believe ... and you had to buy four and only four. two was not an option, nor was six.
it was a big weekend musically in dallas -- the jacksons were doing three nights at Texas Stadium, Van Halen was doing two at Reunion, and Julio Iglesias was also playing in town (not sure where).
the best had to be the day (friday?) that eddie van halen was able to make the jacksons gig and play guitar on "beat it."

Dan, I thought I was the only person who would have remembered all those details. The one you're missing is that Julio (fresh off his "To All The Girls" crossover fame with Willie) was playing at Six Flags of all places, actually . . . I think. I also think that was the first-ever concert at Texas Stadium, which made it an even bigger deal and made those incedibly-expensive $30 tickets easier to accept.

A very talented fellow; an extremely messed up individual. Never saw him live, but I still remember the Motown awards show on TV where he performed BillieJean and did the moonwalk- simply magnificent performance. He showed why he was considered a star.

Michael Jackson may have come to Dallas but he was born in Gary, Indiana while Farrah Fawcett was born in Corpus Christi. Do that Texas math and then ditto Rick Yost's post. That (Motown salute) was one of the single most significant, explosive performances ever recorded anywhere by anyone. And completely jaw-dropping from left field since.. prior to that night in the early 80s... Michael was seen as the kid singer with a pop group. What followed was 'Thriller'. At least for a while.

Your math is correct Rawlins...and that is the math we should observe with Cesar Salad.....which is my humor over a really stong advocate in my book I had meet many folks of the LuLac group with....A/T, Poor star's of the 20th Century, they have to have a headstone....of sorts...
