$42.50 to see The Fixx?
Posted By Alan Cohen in Soundcheck on September 5, 2006
Every Tuesday morning here in the TexasGigs office, the whole staff looks at every show on our calendar and picks our "Best Bets" for the upcoming week.

One of the shows we noticed was that 80s band The Fixx is coming to play at the new venue RockHouse Live on Tuesday.
12 people have already payed $80 to get VIP seating. You have pay at least $55 to be guaranteed any seating. And it'll take at least $42.50 just to get in the door.
Maybe I'm just not in the spirit, but this seems a tad on the pricey side to me...any die hard The Fixx fans out there want to enlighten me on what makes this band worth commanding these kinds of ticket prices?

Fixx? RockHouse Live?
Am I the only one who gets the Fixx & the Knack mixed up?
I mean, I'm 30. But I can't name one Fixx song.

I have caught them twice on this recent tour leg -- at the Hard Rock Casino in Vegas a few weeks ago and The Ramshead Tavern in Annapolis, MD a few nights back. They really are exceptional live. Every gig is one where old fans are sated and new fans are made.
Expect to hear all of your old favorites (you'll recognize more than you recall) as well as a handful of terrific new songs. Listen to them! These guys don't phone it in, nor do they seem mellow versions of their former selves. Jamie West-Oram is one of the finest guitar players out there and he'll knock your socks off.
I guess the venue has decided to set the price as it has because they know how great the show is going to be. Having seen The Fixx around 30 times or so over the past 25 years, (which qualifies me as a die-hard) I'm sure that those in attendance will be impressed with the music, impressed with Cy Curnin's fine vocals and leave the gig quite satisfied in their "investment."
