dconstructing TexasGigs

The first email in my box this morning was a warning message about dconstruction.org's latest podcast. Actually a podcast I'd been looking forward to since they invited The Valentines into the their studio, as I've become quite the fan of that band.
Lindsay and Robert tossed back a few shots of Jack and let the hatin' begin. I know we all know it's all in good fun and what-not...but the whole little segment made me wanna clear some things up after hearing what was said.
I started TexasGigs.com a few years ago to promote and support the local scene, the bands, the venues, the fans, etc. I'm not a writer...hell my spellin' ain't 2 good and my grammer is horrific. I'm absolutely not a critic either. I'm just a gal with a blog and a passion for the local and regional music scene.
I post the QuickDFW Juqbox Band of the Week here every week, mostly out of my loyalty to Hunter Hauk and QuickDFW's tireless support of the local scene. Are there bands that have been chosen that I don't particularly like? Sure. I also post links and blurbs from the Dallas Observer music section each week, as well as the FW Weekly among others. Are there bands and artists they write about that I don't particularly care for? You bet. I try to post a daily list of shows in and around DFW...have I posted shows I wouldn't be caught dead attending? You know it. But that's not the point. I try to provide you folks with information and links on bands, shows, etc. and let YOU decide if you like them or not.
Music is subjective and the beauty of it is truly in the ear of the beholder. There are plenty of other publications, blogs and podcasts out there that take great pleasure in telling bands they suck. That just ain't my game.
So that's that. Nobody, but nobody can tell me what is good or what's not good. That's for me to decide...and for you to decide for yourselves.
To quote a line from a recently aired Ren & Stimpy...
"...if you wanna be a genius it's easy. All you gotta do is say everything stinks, then you are never wrong..."
