DallasMusicFest…What’s the deal?
Posted By Cindy Chaffin in TexasGigs - Cindy's Original Blog on January 24, 2006
The DallasMusicFest has been sort of a thorn in my side the last couple of years. That's based on feedback from participating bands, music critics and fans.. It's a pay-to-play event, no matter how it's skewed by the folks in Ohio. They are still making the bands sell tickets; and from all accounts, the bands that sell the most get the better slots/venues. I've yet to hear back from anyone at DMF...after numerous tries, so I ain't got much to go on other than what I've been told...hearsay if you will. There are, however, some good local folks (as well as good bands) participating this year, so I'm hoping for the best for all.
After clicking through the site, I finally found the schedule and there are a few bands of note to check out...so...check it out and see for yourself!

I've seen enough to believe that these guys are just using the bands, who get little out of it.

The DMF rip-off absolutely would not happen without the collusion of the club owners, so don't talk to me about "saving" Deep Ellum. Not when they're throwing elbows to get in line to eat their young. "Rich, cultural heritage", my big fat white blah-blah-blah.
Assignment desk: someone check the club schedule from previous years to see who's still open, who's still in cahoots with the DMF carnies, etc. Talk to the current club owner-participants and see if you can get a straight story about their motivations for participation in this scam, given the horror stories that crop up every damn year.
