Something To Do: Part 2 Ian Moore @ Bend Studio
Posted By Michael Harberg in On Tour In My Own Bed on June 8, 2006
I love going to check out new music about which I know nothing, there is something about just listening, without expecting to hear a certain song or waiting for a solo to come that really appeals to me and seems very appropriate for the atmosphere at Bend Studio.
I went to Bend Studio to see Cas Haley, everything else was just going to be icing on the cake, and then Ian Moore happened. Ian plays acoustic guitar and sings (and hits the bass drum every now and again) while his multi-instrumentalist (trumpet, keyboards, vocal harmony, xylophone, accordian, etc.) fills in everything else. I was even more impressed when I glanced to my right and noticed that the couple sitting next to me in the front row was mouthing the words along to all of his songs (at least every time I checked). I like seeing music having a compelling effect on people.
Ian is an ideal artist for Bend Studio (for his encore, he stood at the front of the room, without the stage or microphones, and played a couple of Texas themed tunes from the 50's (including Buddy Holly), with the immensely talented multi-instrumentalist whose name escapes me (if anyone knows, please post it as a comment after this...that guys is sick!) playing accordian). Throughout the set I was blown away by his voice and guitar more than once!
If you have a chance to see Ian Moore, don't miss it! (or if you missed this show, Paul Slavens recorded it for his radio program...click his name for the link to his show at Bend Studio this Friday) (nice to meet you Paul!)
(If you were able to follow all of that...you are good. I will write more on this later, so many shows...so little time!)
Part 3: Fatty Lumpkin is still in the works... (I went from looking through listings to having too much to do in about 5 minutes...I didn't get to (but really wanted to) make it down to Club Dada for that killer Y'allternative lineup! More on this soon!)
Have fun! Be safe! See you there!
