Widespread Panic Fans For Food & Time 2 Fly Music WP CD Release Party

Posted By Michael Harberg in On Tour In My Own Bed on June 14, 2006

The new CD is awesome! I arrived at the Green Elephant during the 2nd quarter, just as Josh Weathers was finishing his set. (I didn't even get to see the "Thank you, goodnight!") The inside had the big screen TV set up centerstage for game 3 while the backyard was all music.

Widespread Panic Fans For Food had a picnic table set up to take donations and to show off the prizes for the raffle just past the "roll-your-ankle" tree. I didn't win anything (the coolest prizes were the signed poster and the 2 pairs of tickets for the upcoming Widespread Panic concert at Nokia), but I did pick up a free WP magnet and beer koozie. (I suppose I could use it for non-alcoholic beverages also.)

Earth To America is a rockin' album from start (Second Skin) to finish (May Your Glass Be Filled). I was lucky enough to hear it for the first time through the powerful speakers in the Green Elephant's backyard and I definitely recomend this album to Widespread Panic fans new and old! (I also met the guy who started/runs PanicStream.com, Curtis George. This website is incredible and is "absolute must see & listen" material for any Panic fan!)

After the ablum, A Partial Freakout played from about 10pm till midnight with their own music that I found very much to be in the style of Widespread Panic. (not a bad thing) Bryant Goodall & Robbie Crist play well off each other on guitars and Blair Mitchell & Will Dowdy do well to compliment each other (while staying out of eachothers way) as a percussion section. I really liked their version of "Cocaine" which apparently wasn't satisfied with Clapton's party menu. Look for that video soon on their Texasgigs.com page...

...and don't forget to check out Time 2 Fly Music for more cool Texas shows that come through venues like the Green Elephant and Lakewood Bar & Grill!

Tonight, look for me at Club Dada for Indiekitten Goes West: with Cowboys & Indians, The Atoms and Tommy Hale.

Have fun! Be safe! See you there!

Mikey, give me a call when you get into the area. You should stop by the crib for a break...
