Go Mavs! Busy week ahead…

On Tour In My Own Bed

First things first...GO MAVS!!! I don't want to get too carried away with comparisons just in case things don't work out the same way, but I remember another Texas basketball team coming back home to play game 6 for the right to play for it all in game 7. That seemed to work out pretty well (see My Beloved 1993-94 NBA Champion Houston Rockets) for everyone except the NY Knicks, but I get the feeling that most around town wouldn't be too broken up if Miami suffered a similar fate. I really hope Mavs fans get to enjoy that! On to the music...

I love the spectacle that is the NBA Finals, but LES CLAYPOOL & RASPUTINA are playing the Gypsy Tea Room's Ballroom tonight! I have been looking forward to this show for months, even more after Bobkat (soundguy extraordinaire for Club Dada, Bass Hall, etc.) highly recommended Rasputina! I will have to keep track of the game via my phone, cus nothing could keep me from this show!

Wednesday night I am going to be pretty busy, but what else is new? I am going to check out as much of the show @ the Granada Theater as I can I stay for with Richard Swift, Talk Demonic & The Walkmen before I head down to Club Dada for Indiekitten Goes West: The Atoms, Cowboys & Indians and Tomahawk Molly.

Thursday night is going to be game 7 (hopefully), so I'll be watching the game somewhere. Possibly I will watch the game at the Knox Street Pub, so I can walk across McKinney Ave to get to Ned Lane @ Cretia's on McKinney after the game! (my newest weekly tradition)

If the worst happens (and I don't have a Mavs game to watch on Thursday, I will be checking out Listening To:'s linup with Travis Hopper, David Ramirez, Levi Smith & Porter Davis @ Club Dada before I go to Cretia's on McKinney for Ned Lane.

I'll get to Friday and the rest of the weekend in a post later this week so for now...

Have fun! Be safe! See you there! GO MAVS!!

Well, for people that are watching the game, you know you can enjoy the big screens and sound system at Granada - no cover, full bar and kitchen - sounds a little better than your neighbor's old plaid couch, huh?

Rasputina is something else. If you ever wanted a band ripped out of the gothic sets of Limony Snicket's, this is your band.

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
