March 3, 2008: Column Awards and Counterfeiters

Work In Progress

The big deal on tap for this evening involves our video coverage of The Column Awards, which will be undertaken (the coverage, not the awards) by staffers Catherine, Chris and Chad.

Catherine is scheduled to interview Tim O'Hare, Farmers Branch mayoral candidate, tomorrow (Tues., March 4).

Minnie will be following up on a couple of independent story leads and scheduling interviews.

Laura S. is working up her monthly piece on recently-posted PegNews group Flickr photos.

Alex will be checking out the Oscar-winning foreign language film for 2007, The Counterfeiters (Die Fälscher, if you're partial to its original German language title.)

And John (yours truly) will be sifting through college/university press releases and then taking in a screening of Honeydripper (a new John Sayles film set in '50s rural Alabama) later this evening.

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
