Raised in Amarillo on a diet of hard country, Fowler headed to Los Angeles at age 20 to study music at the Guitar Institute of Technology. He returned to Texas a year later, settling in Austin, and gained his initial major league musical experience playing guitar in Dangerous Toys, a Texas hard rock band. They recorded two albums for Columbia Records (one of them certified gold) and were an MTV staple in the late 80âs and early 90âs.
Fowler started his own hard-edged Southern rock band (Thunderfoot) after his stint with Dangerous Toys. But in 1998 he ditched rock for good and went straight country.
