A preview from "Listening To:" proprietrix Amanda:
I am so super hoppy bouncy excited about this weekâs Listening To:
First off, my August Artist in Residence is none other than Dallas Observer Music Award Winning Media Darlings Who Are Adorable to Boot: FISHING FOR COMETS.
Fishing for Comets will start things off at 8 oâclock. Not to miss, not to miss.
Next up at 9 weâll have the mysterious yet mystifying Travis Hopper, who flat out refuses to allow me to call his band the aptly titled âTravis Hopper & His Amazing Dancing Hamsters. Travis new CD is dreamy, but even dreamier still when you hear him play his new gemlike songs live.
At 10 its Porterdavis also know as what Jesus himself would sound like if he formed a roots rock and blues band. You wrote, you called, you demanded and hissyfitted until I went crazy with your requests to bring them back. If you missed Porterdavis the first time youâre a fool, miss them THIS time and you are simply an idiot.
Finally, my little pet discovery from San Antonio, Marcus Rubio will delight and amaze us at 11. You must hear this boy genius. To quote myself, âand, though he also claims to play the saw, I watched him abuse a guitar and violin in a way that I never thought imaginable. There is nothing commonplace, contrived, pretentious, or ersatz in his musical creations. Alternately plucking, sawing, strumming, and bashing about his guitar and violin, he remained doll-faced and devil-may-care while conjuring up brainy incantations of everyday life, his influences, and his thoughts.â
Hal Samples will be there as always, snapping the best damn pictures you ever did see. See for yourself: http://hal.exposuremanager.com/g/dada...
Cindy will be making an appearance too, so watch out for another Cow and Monkey reunion.
