The Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy

The two hour documentary, The Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy, by the local producer/director team of Steve Heape and Chip Richie (www.richheape.com), depicts the forced removal of the Cherokee Nation to Oklahoma in 1838. According to historians, nearly a quarter of the Nation, many of them children and elders, died during the grim removal process. Immediately following the screening, a question and answer panel will occur with filmmakers Heape and Richie and four Collin professors.

The film is narrated by actor James Earl Jones, who is part Cherokee, and also told by Wes Studi (Last of the Mohicans) in the traditional Cherokee language with subtitles.

The screening is FREE for Collin students/faculty ($5.00 for the general public), and is being shown in partnership with Collin County Community College's Center for Scholarly & Civic Engagement.
