J.D. Whittenburg / Cowpilot / Airline / Triangleheads
July 20, 2006
Join J.D. Whittenburg in his second to last week as Club Dadaâs Artist in Residence. Heâs claiming that this week heâll wow us with some sort of fat â70âs Elvis re-enactment in addition to some yummy Trainwreck songs and oh-so wonderful new stuff. On a special note Mr. Whittenburgâs Trainwreck boys will be there which means our favorite Monkeyboy, aka Bobby Sue, aka Rob the Fiddler will be on hand to add his own special flavor of greatness to the mix.
Next week will be J.D.âs last week as Artist in Residence so if you miss it tonight, youâll have one more chance to repent sinner and redeem yourself.
Tonightâs Listening To: is packed with a wallop and lots of aviation themes for some reasonâ¦
Cowpilot will start things off with their very special mix of âtechno-throwback cutting edge hillbilly rockinâ twang.â
Next, local darlings, AIRLINE, are back with a new lineup. Chris Carmichael has moved to drums from bass, Robby Holley is still singing lead but now plays bass, Ryan Smith remains on keys, and Will Woolsey still on lead guitar. As a four-piece, the result is a streamlined, more even sound allowing each magnificent part to shine and stand out.
Then weâre gonna shake things up a bit and throw you a little something unexpected. Pilot of Kite (see aviation theme) and Children 18:3. Both bands have been touring together for quite some time now. Think kinder, gentler punk and rock. CANCELLED DUE TO TRAVEL PROBLEMS
Finally weâll end things on a Triangleheads note. Triangleheads are a local effort headed by a GTR employee. Word on the street is that theyâre pretty good, however, Iâll be damnned if I canât get any of their music to load on their MySpace.
