Being the resident "soccer hooligan" I feel I must comment. Not only is Polyphonic Spree opening the game, but the halftime show will be a set by Under the Influence of Giants, a Los Angeles-based pop rock band. If there is one thing that the MLS Cup Final has over the Super Bowl, it is that you don't have to suffer through Justin Timberlake, Brittany Spears, or a slowly decaying Mick Jagger playing his "last show EVER". And now for the actual soccer fans, there is a Texas team in the finals, the Houston Dynamo. They will be taking on the New England Revolution.
I already have my ticket to this game and am definitely looking forward to it. Just a fair warning to everyone sitting near me: if you are looking for an intelligent conversation during the game look elsewhere, this hooligan is saving her voice for yelling at the ref.... and the guy selling, ummm, soda.

He used to be Mick Jagger, but now I'm not so sure what he is.

ah yes, I see the Mick Jagger contingent has spoken up. Any Super Bowl purists that are similarly offended?
Alan, would you also like to vouch for Justin and Brittany? or maybe Janet? :)

My PR hack comment is laced with rock energy and tempered with pop sensibility:
Island Def Jam recording artists Under the Influence of Giants, who will be performing their hit "In the Clouds," have become a mainstay on iTunes since the album debuted in the top 10 of the iTunes Album Chart. Their first single, "Mama's Room," was featured as an iTunes Single Of The Week, generating over 300,000 downloads. The band's iTunes "Sessions" recordings will launch on November 14, two days after MLS Cup 2006. UTIOG has received rave reviews from, amongst others, People Magazine, Entertainment Weekly and the Los Angeles Times. With its combination of rock energy tempered with pop sensibility, harmonies and groove-based funk, Under the Influence of Giants' self-titled debut album has proven to be one of the most acclaimed new artist albums of 2006. UTIOG is currently on a national U.S. tour that includes shows with Angels & Airwaves and Cobra Starship. The band recently finished the Verizon College Tour with All American Rejects.

and for the sake of comment, I would like it to be noted that titanmoon opened for Under the Influence of Giants in July at Gypsy Tea Room and a good time was had by all.
They wear disco gloves. UTIOG do, that is. And have their manager ask you to leave the backstage area if you are smoking. (which I wasn't.) That is all.
