Tonight I have not one, not two, not three, but four white rabbits that I’ve yanked out of my hat…and for those of you who think I’m partial to one genre over another, let’s just say that this show will certainly put some figurative duct tape over your little mouths.
But first things first, Doug Burr is back at 8 as our Artist in Residence. Tonight Doug will be playing all brand new material – and you may be surprised as to whom one of his co-authors is! You gots to come see it fer yerself.
Then, imagine the sound of a phonograph needle raking itself across vinyl…and that’s what you get when you go from the fabulousness of Doug Burr to the fabulousness that is:
Soft Environmental Collapse Their song, Pros & Cons was recently featured on the Emergenza 2006 - Born To Play Live compellation disk, not too shabby for a duo of brothers that gig about as often as a blue moon appears. If you like your music served a little avant-garde with a proper dose of pop and noise, show up early, SeC is NOT to be missed.
PVC Street Gang
With one song to go on and a nod from White Denim, this is my good-faith pickoff the night. While its hard for me to form an opion of PVC Street Gang based upon one song, all I can say is from what I hear, this will be a perfect accompaniment to the entire night of sounds with music.
White Denim Out of Austin,a Gorilla vs. Bear favorite and in continuous rotation at my hacienda, White Denim is, in my opinion, one of the best things to happen to my ears in a very long time. What I love the most is that they have an appeal for me because I hear shades of the underground music I was listening to in my younger days while maintaining a thoroughly modern sound that’s all their own. Its noisy, rambunctious, eccentric and has caused me to dust off and revisit old favorites like Overwhelming Colorfast.
.
Tiger
Closing things out for the night is the gentler, but nonetheless interestingly wonderful sounds of Tiger. Think Sylvia Plath meets Tom Waits meets I can’t believe this sound is coming out of Arlington, Texas. Hearing works like the kind Tiger produces give me a great deal of hope that well-produced, experiments in music aren’t sleeping; they’re just hiding out in unlikely cities.
Hope to see you out tonight!
