Sez Amanda: "Tonightâs Listening To: show is chock full of my very personal favorites. I always try to book shows filled with music that I think has merit and is wonderful. Sometimes that means booking brand spanking new bands, bands that I donât normally listen to or bands that may be pushing the envelope in some sort of fashion. However, this show is a culmination of four of my most favorite bands/people that Iâve met since I started doing this Thursday night shindig at Club Dada. Though we had to bid an abrupt and disappointed to David Garza and his broken hand, the show must go on, and go on well it will. (Guys, let me tell you something right now. If you are dating a girl or hanging out with a girl that you like and want to really get in good with her, THIS is the show to take her to. Not only will you look like a total badass, youâll both love the bands. Her because theyâre insightful and swoon-worthy, you because theyâre insightful without being weepy and theyâre all amazing musicians. Or to put it the words of one Miss WeeDemon, they will totally rock your girlfriendâs crotch.) Starting at 8 is Anthony Ferraro, a Town of the Cow man and a wonderfully adept, smart, never hackneyed, singer-songwriter whom you may recognize as the front man and mastermind behind Eaton Lake Tonics. When you strip Tonyâs music down to the essentials, a guitar, amazing songwriting, and an incredible voice, what was once a clever rock song, becomes a sort of indie-folk rock that, at times, will cause your jaw to drop. Next at 9 are the Dirt Blazers from Dallas. Iâve said it before and Iâll say it again, while the Dirt Blazers take cues from Wilco (I mean hell, Chris Gonzales sounds just like freakinâ Jeff Tweedy for cryin out loud) and The Jayhawks, their sound is all their own: wonderfully untroubled in its delivery and deliciously small-town jukebox twangy. Their brand of three piece yaâllternative rock is often the soundtrack for my day dreams of wanting to take my dog, my man (though I donât have one), pack a bag and a couple of bottles of whiskey, buy a 1950âs Ford pickup, and go on a road trip that never ends. Next up at 10 is Little Dâs Pinebox Serenade. The very first time I ever stumbled into the Doublewide I was lucky enough to hear Pinebox Serenade. I was blown away and immediately began to pester them to play a Thursday show, though I could laud and laud this band, Miles of Music sums it up so perfectly, âIt`s a loose array of dirgey mountain folk, dark ballads and gypsy tales, all graced with bluegrass elements and bedeviled with the irreverence of alt. country. Their songs speak of such notable members of society such as the town drunk, the local gravedigger, the marginally insane, the lovelorn and the doomed.â ...

And more...
Finally, back by request, at 11 is Austinâs Porter Davis. These guys have share the stage with Melissa Etheridge, Lyle Lovett, Marc Broussard, and Ellis Paul, just to name a few and some have actually said that Porter Davis is what Jesus himself would sound like if he formed a roots rock and blues band. Take one part Dan Barrettâs kickinâ blues guitar and gravelly vocals, Simon Wallace wailing on harmonicas in a way that will blow your mind ( Simon landed the National Blues Harmonica Title at the age of 17), and Mike Meadows on percussion that consists only of instruments indigenous to South America and Africa, and you get something special. If youâve ever been to a show where a band can single handedly change the vibe in a room and make everyone shut up, then you know exactly what Iâm talking about. Get your ass to Dada tonight. You wonât be disappointed."
