Description

Writing in the 19th century, the German architect and critic Gottfried Semper described a new foundation and origin of architecture: textile. For Semper, architecture’s fount was not the mound or post and beam construction, but the woven wall. Describing architecture’s fundament in terms of foldable fabric and the pliable layers of covering, Semper set forth a new paradigm of the medium that was in closer keeping with the then-emergent world of industrial arts and mass-produced objects for the home. This talk by Dr. Charissa Terranova, Assistant Professor of Art History, SMU, brings together the idea of fabric and the fold in order to discuss fashion in contemporary architecture and design.

In the Dr. Bob Smith Auditorium. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Karaoke Oh yeah, you know you wanna belt it out like you're alone in the car. The microphone beckons. What else do you have to do on a Monday night? I mean besides watching football? If this is a bit far from your neighborhood, don't worry. There is a karaoke machine near you just waiting. More info
