An introduction to ancient symbols from pre-history to modern Mexico that reflect the belief in feminine deities and its vigorous survival in modern devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe. The lectures are a snapshot of courses offered at Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University by Mercedes Olivera. Besides being a weekly columnist at The Dallas Morning News for more than 30 years, Ms. Olivera has been a Fulbright Scholar to Mexico, and the recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities grant and a Gannett Teaching Fellowship. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Dallas and a master's degree from New York University.
