A donor must be at least 17 year of agae, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. Most medications will not prevent a person from donating. If you have had breast cancer and been diagnosed by your doctor as cancer free for 5 years and have completed all cancer related treatments. A person with a history of heart trouble or certain types of cancer will be ineligible.

Donors are encouraged to eat a low-fat meal within four hours before giving blood. Donors will be given a mini-physical (blood pressure, temperature, and iron count) and asked questions in order to establish their eligibility. After the screening process, the donor relaxes in the donor bed while a trained phlebotomist takes their donation. Afterwards, donors can enjoy juice and cookies. The entire process takes about an hour; the actual donation itself takes only about 8-10 minutes. Donors will receive a free cholesterol screen following their donation.
