Design Treasures: An African American Architectural Tour

A guided tour of Architectural sites that are significant to the African American Community because of design or occupancy. Tour will include structures designed by William Sidney Pitman, John Chase, Austin Greaux, Norcell Hayward, Stan Jackson and others. Significant structures occupied and or designed by African Americans will include the Old Moorland Branch YMCA Building; St. Paul United Methodist Church; The African American Museum; Friendship West Baptist Church; New Hope Baptist Church; St. Luke “Community” United Methodist Church and Cornerstone Baptist Church of Christ. The Tour begins at 10 a.m. at the African American Museum and ends at 2 p.m. with a box lunch in the Helen Giddings Solarium at the African American Museum. Well-known local historian, Donald Payton, and architect Jeanette Brown Sneed will lead the Tour. The fee is $25 for Museum members and $35 for non-members. The reservation deadline is February 19, 2007 and payment must be made by then.
