Andy Griggs
June 20, 2007
You've heard Andy Griggs smoldering on romantic ballads like "Tonight I Wanna Be Your Man." And you've heard him storming through firecracker country rockers like "I'll Go Crazy." But you haven't yet heard the full range of this artist's music, and that's something he still hopes to capture. Signing with new label Montage Music Group this fall will afford him that opportunity, as he enters the studio with award-winning songwriter Frank Myers to begin work on a brand new album, due out this Spring.
The Louisiana native has enjoyed an illustrious career since appearing on the country scene in the late 90’s, and fans are no doubt familiar with songs like “You Won’t Ever Be Lonely” and “I’ll Go Crazy,” which became instant hits. Raised in West Monroe, LA, Andy was exposed to country music at an early age by his father. After his dad died of cancer when he was 10, he and his brother dealt with their grief by listening to their father's favorite Merle Haggard album. As a teen, though, Andy was much more interested in high school football than music. But older brother Mason became a songwriter and musician working in a country-gospel band. When Andy was 18, Mason died of a heart attack, and in mourning, he picked up his brother's guitar and began to follow in his footsteps. After working as a sideman in The Sullivans’ bluegrass-gospel band for several years, Andy decided to move to Music City in 1995. He auditioned for RCA Records, and by 1998 was working on his debut album, “You Won't Ever Be Lonely.” He wrote four songs on that collection, including his first two top 10 hits, the title track and "I'll Go Crazy." “You Won't Ever Be Lonely” was soon certified Gold. Andy also penned six cuts on his second CD, “Freedom,” including "How Cool Is That," and "Tonight I Wanna Be Your Man," which sailed into the top 10 in early 2002. It also included "Practice Life,” a duet with Martina McBride. On his last album, “This I Gotta See” Andy Griggs co-wrote two songs and enlisted Grammy Award-winning guitarist/producer Randy Scruggs to bring new textures to his sound. The album included hits like “She Thinks She Needs Me," as well as the moving "If Heaven."
