Mid-Day Gallery Talk
March 30, 2007
Many elements of traditional Spanish costumes have made their mark on world fashion and stand out as being characteristically Spanish in an industry dominated, particularly in the 19th century, by French designs. Perhaps no two single elements stand out as Spanish more than the bolero and the mantilla.
This talk by Amanda Dotseth, assistant curator, will define these terms, as well as others associated with traditional Spanish costumes, and explore the appearance of these two icons of Spanish fashion as they appear in selected works of the Meadows Museum’s permanent collection.
