Texas Ballet Theater opens the performance with Swan Lake, Act II: “The Lakeside by Moonlight”. Often referred to as the white act, Act 11 of Swan Lake is a place where beautiful, mystical swan-creatures and true love meet.
The evening’s ultimate work is the world premiere of Ben Stevenson’s ballet set to the magnificent Requiem. Composed in 1791 over the last few months of Mozart’s short life, the Requiem has become legend. Mozart himself grew to see the commission he accepted to compose the massive, intricate work as a message from God to write the music to accompany his own death – a delusion fostered by his patron, a count who sought secrecy in order to take credit for the composition himself. Mozart’s untimely death before completion of the project lends an urgency to the supplication and absolution of every movement. It is an urgency that translates easily to the versatility and power of ballet.
Texas Ballet Theater presents this world premiere on the stage of the historic Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas. Join us for a ballet that will be the first of its kind, a work of stunning and uncompromising grandeur.
