Qubad Talabani - Permanent Representative for the Kurdistan Regional Government to the U.S.
November 30, 2007
As the war in Iraq continues, the stability of the northern, oil-rich region of Kurdistan is more important now than ever. With increasing tensions between the U.S. and Turkey and the threat of Turkish invasion of Kurdistan looming, the security of this province is in jeopardy. Qubad Talabani, representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government to the United States, joins the Council to discuss the timely issues facing America and the Kurdistan region and the critical nature of this relationship.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Talabani served as a senior foreign relations officer for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). He has also worked in Iraq as a key PUK negotiator during the creation of the country’s first post-Saddam constitution. In addition to these posts, Mr. Talabani has served as the deputy representative of the PUK in Washington, D.C., where he currently resides.
