Jim Leavelle joined the Dallas Police Department in 1950 and worked as a detective in the Homicide and Robbery Bureau. He was heavily involved in the Kennedy assassination investigation and, on November 24, 1963, became a recognizable figure worldwide. That day, dressed in a light-colored suit and hat, Detective Leavelle was escorting a handcuffed Lee Harvey Oswald when Jack Ruby shot the assassination suspect. This gallery talk is free with paid admission to the Museum and reservations are not required.
