Title: Suffering and Exile: The Second Exodus in the Shadow of the Holocaust
Speaker: Aimee Israel-Pelletier, Modern Languages
When Egypt expelled its Jewish population in 1956 during the Suez crisis, an event called the Second Exodus, writer and poet Edmond Jabes was among the hundreds of thousands of Jews forced to live in exile. This lecture will focus on two short texts from Jabes' "Book of Questions" as he struggles to come to terms with hte pain of exile in a time when all the suffering was measured against that of Auschwitz.
