Tracy Yost, says:
Marchel Ivery passed away this morning at about 11am, in Presbyterian Hospital, due to complications from pneumonia.
He was hear at Pearl playing friday night and seemed fine, laughing and cutting up and giving out hugs, just being Marchel.
This is a huge loss for the Dallas area jazz community and we will miss him here at Pearl.

Thank you for the information, Tracy. We are actually in the process of putting a story together, which should be up soon.
This certainly is a huge loss for the jazz community, and the Dallas music community as a whole.

Rawlins Gilliland, says:
My times seeing him at Pearl and decades ago in New York at the Village Gate and Vanguard, Sweet Basil, et al............. this man is a world wide legend. And no less than Red Garland who also played out his final years here, his death will be noted with sadness from Sydney to Moscow and all points in between where the great American artform of jazz is our best good will ambassador.
