Rusty Scruby grew up on the island of Kwajalein because his father was in the service. Surrounded by the testing of missiles and the ocean waves, Rusty developed the thirst of knowledge for perfection. He would stare at the waves and realize how each one was very different, but each one was very alike. He wanted to figure out the mathimatical reasoning behind such complex perfection. After attending engineering school at ATM, he dropped out as a Junior to study music composition in North Texas. He found that in each musical piece (paino) there was a pattern of numbers. This pattern reminded him of the waves on the ocean and created the idea for his art creations.

He went to the drawing board and mathematically calculated a wave formation. He transformed this onto paper with his own method of cutting and threading, invented by him and only known by him, of blown up photographs. Through this threading and accurate calculations/measurements, captivating waves form. He went beyone this point, to thread together interesting sculpture forms.

Once people noticed his unique style, art lovers began to encourage him to show his art. Quin Mathews follows Rusty's path of creating and getting to the point of the show.

Through the film, Rusty explains his love for numbers, odd perfection, and isolation as his influences for his art.
