AFI Dallas International Film Festival - ‘Ice Age’
April 5, 2008
(USA, 2002, 81 mins)
Directed By: Chris Wedge, Carlos Saldanha
Cast (Voices): Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Goran Visnjic, Jack Black
Once, when ice covered the Earth, the animals showed an altruistic bent that we haven’t seen since. Or so that how director Chris Wedge’s Ice Age sees it.
The touching story has the Animal Kingdom scurrying to save itself from the glacial onslaught. Even so, a dimwitted sloth named Sid, a woolly mammoth named Manny, a saber-toothed tiger named Diego, and an acorn-loving saber-toothed squirrel named Scrat are forced to become unlikely heroes. The four reluctantly come together when they have to return a human child to its father while braving the deadly elements of the impending Ice Age.
The carefully crafted characters, vivid animation and heartfelt story made it an instant animated classic.
