Nicholas Kristof, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, Rhodes Scholar and one of the most well-known journalists to document the crises in Darfur, will bring to the Council his unique perspectives on the African region’s continuing violence. The government of Sudan maintains that the “ethnic cleansing,” as it is described by UN officials, does not exist, despite the estimated 200,000 – 400,000 people who have been killed and the nearly two million who have been displaced. A columnist for The New York Times, Kristof has documented the tribal warfare, politics and atrocities of the region with insight that comes only from witnessing firsthand the devastation of Darfur.
